You can be a leader

by Hiten on January 15, 2011

I don’t buy into the idea that people who stutter can’t be leaders, not for a second.

You can. If you want to.

A leader, through a mixture of doing and saying inspires other people to want to act differently.

You’re already a leader. You’re a leader of yourself.

You have the ability to both do and say in order to act differently, change, and improve your life.

Master this first and then you can think about creating change, which will involve leading others.

You might not be aware of it, but by not picking up the phone you are doing something positive for yourself.

You’re avoiding the pain of stuttering. You’re ensuring the person on the other side doesn’t hear you stammer.

Call it protecting yourself.

However, this respite from the pain won’t last. It will become even stronger the next time the phone rings.

What other positive things can you do, which will be longer lasting instead?

If failure existed, then the world as you know it wouldn’t

January 14, 2011

What does that mean? Everything really. The apartment or house you live in had a designer. He or she didn’t probably wasn’t great at designing when starting out, but continued. Your friend has become a good dancer, but once had two left feet. Your boss at work is effective at delegating, but had to learn [...]

Rise of the stuttering networks

January 13, 2011

Once there was a person who stuttered and she felt alone. She was one person with just one voice – unheard in the sea of millions of other voices who just didn’t understand her. She came to the Internet and found another stuttering friend. These two stuttering friends made a Facebook group and were joined [...]

The stammering mind

January 13, 2011

Is not as powerful as you might think. When you become conscious of the negative emotions (e.g. anxiousness) you’re creating, you become less and less reactive to them. Your mind begins to loose its grip on you. Your mind can’t believe it’s being resisted, so it will try and fight back. The fighting back of [...]

Self-worth

January 12, 2011

The clue is in the name. The word isn’t ‘friend-worth’ or ‘he-worth’ or ‘she-worth’ or ‘this-worth’ or even ‘that-worth’. It’s self-worth. This means it can only come from you. Not from something outside of you. So, if it comes from you, then surely it puts you in the driving seat to give worth to yourself? [...]

The King’s Speech is more than just about the King’s Speech

January 11, 2011

I have to admit, I still haven’t seen it. Reading your comments on Facebook and Twitter though, tells me the movie superbly illustrates the struggle that any person who stutters goes through. It’s great to see you use the movie as a talking point, to raise awareness in those around you and those who have [...]

Life is grey

January 9, 2011

So you’re friend is married, has a good job and seems happy. You’ve been stuttering a lot during telephone interviews recently and getting a new job has been difficult. This doesn’t mean that your friend has everything and you have nothing. Life is not black and white. It is grey. Black and white restricts your [...]

If it’s never happened, then why worry?

January 7, 2011

Yes ok, I can understand if you’ve stammered really badly in front of yourPprofessor or boss,Pand you’re anxious about future conversations with her/him. But if you never have, then why are you worrying you will now?

Don’t take it personally

January 6, 2011

If a group assignment at college or collaborative project at work went bad, it wasn’t because of your stuttering. There could have been other factors involved. Perhaps the overall quality of your assignment was poor, or your team at work were trying to solve the wrong problem. Don’t take any ‘bad’ incident personally. There are [...]
