RERC Mission
"To research, evaluate and develop innovative wireless technologies and products that meet the needs and improve the quality of life and community participation of individuals with disabilities."
Funded since 2001, the Wireless RERC (Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center) has become a recognized leader on issues and solutions related to the accessibility and usability of mobile wireless products and services by people with disabilities.
The strategies employed to facilitate use of wireless technologies by people with disabilities are:
- create access to wireless technologies by people with disabilities, and
- work with relevant stakeholders to remove barriers and champion adoption of accessible solutions, including universal design, in future generations of wireless technologies.

App Factory
The Wireless RERC’s App Factory invites app developers to submit proposals for financial support to develop assistive and/or accessibility apps
Five new apps slated for development
AccessNote is an iOS app that enables users who are blind or visually impaired to take notes, create documents, and access applications.
BrailleTouch is a smartphone app that allows blind and visually impaired people to type on a touchscreen.
The AppFactory is a core project of the Wireless RERC to produce smartphone accessibility applications
