Interior Commits $14.6 Million in Economic Recovery Funding to Delta-Mendota Canal/California Aqueduct Intertie Pumping Plant, Underground Pipeline

With this ARRA award, Reclamation is initiating the construction phase of the project. The $14.6 million award was issued to Shimmick Construction of Oakland, Calif. for building a pumping station and underground pipeline connection, installing four pumps and motors and building an electrical switchyard. Secretary Salazar Announces $47 Million More under Recovery Act to Improve Water Supplies for Indian Tribes

Today’s announcements apply to five tribes that will receive a total of $47 million-the Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota; the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe in South Dakota; and the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. Secretary Salazar Awards $27.74 Million Contract for Construction of the Navajo Nation Municipal Pipeline

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced today that the Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a contract totaling $27.74 million to the Navajo Engineering and Construction Authority for the construction of Reaches 2 through 6 of the Navajo Nation Municipal Pipeline. NECA, a construction firm wholly-owned and operated by the Navajo Nation, will use the funds to construct the remaining 21-mile stretch (out of a total project of 29 miles) of the municipal pipeline. Recovery Act Funds Will Upgrade Earthquake Monitoring

Grants totaling $5 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act are being awarded to 13 universities nationwide to upgrade critical earthquake monitoring networks and increase public safety.

$52.5 Million Recovery Project Gets Underway to Replace Rough Rock Community School

Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs Larry Echo Hawk joined Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley and other Indian Affairs and Navajo tribal officials September 16 in a ceremonial groundbreaking event for Phase II of a major school replacement and improvement project at the historic Rough Rock Community School on the Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona. The project is funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) and is being carried out under the Indian Affairs Office of Facilities, Environmental and Cultural Resources (OFECR) in conjunction with the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), the Navajo Nation and the Rough Rock Community School. $20 Million Investment for Rural Water in North Central Montana

The $20 million investment in the Rocky Boys North Central Montana Regional Water System will treat water at Lake Elwell, south of Chester, and transmit it to approximately 43,000 users on Rocky Boys Indian Reservation and other communities in the region, including Big Sandy, Box Elder, Havre, the North Havre County Water District, the Hill County Water District and Chester, as well as communities farther west. Interior Invests $2.5 Million ARRA funds in Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Projects

With the ARRA funding, eight projects will support ESA compliance for Reclamation’s operation and maintenance activities on the lower Colorado River and establish more than 8,100 acres of riparian, marsh and backwater habitat and provide the capacity for growing more than 1.2 million endangered fish to the target size for introduction to the river system’s existing population. BLM Awards Stimulus Contracts for Trail Projects in the Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area

The Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area is kicking off BLM Colorado’s first American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project. The BLM Colorado State Office awarded $60,000 in ARRA funding to the Colorado Youth Corps Association to conduct trail maintenance, construction, and restoration work for the western slope of the Gunnison Gorge NCA. Another $35,000 in ARRA funding will go to Bicycle Colorado to design and begin planning on the Gunnison Gorge NCA trail system. Learn More

Interior to Invest $7.8 Million in Economic Recovery Funding at Folsom Dam in California

The award by the Department of the Interior through President ObamaÁ€™s economic recovery plan provides employment opportunities and an economic boost for the region. The refurbishment will be performed by Abide International, Sonoma, Calif. The upgrades to Folsom Dam will assure continued water deliveries for power, agricultural, urban, and industrial uses in California.á  The intertie is designed to connect the Delta-Mendota Canal and the California Aqueduct via a new pipeline and pumping plant to help improve Delta-Mendota Canal conveyance limitations, allow for maintenance and repair activities, and provide the flexibility to respond to Central Valley Project and State Water Project emergency water operations. Bureau of Reclamation Awarded $16.6 Million Contract

The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $16.6 million contract under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for modifying the spillway piers and gates of Folsom Dam to resist seismic loadings. The work was awarded to Kiewit Pacific Co. of Concord, Calif. The company will make seismic improvements to the existing dam gates and piers, to include the installation of pier anchors and bracing, the replacement of existing gate arms and other equipment, and preparation and support activities.á  Learn more
