Art that makes you smile.

Some of my recent whimsical artistic creations for your enjoyment.

  • The БЂњMighty Balloon,БЂ« standing pretty at 13 feet tall, is a public art piece installed in the heart of downtown Ithaca, NY. The entire pole and string were custom-fabricated out of steel, the balloon is a mixture of a bunch of different chemicals, and I wired the lantern with a solar-powered bulb so it lights up at night. <a href='mailto:ryan@mcguiremade.com'Request more info...">
  • I turned my 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle into a dinosaur car using foam and fiberglass. <a href='mailto:ryan@mcguiremade.com'Request more info...">
  • БЂњI Look SillyБЂ« is a whimsical photography series that includes over fifty unique, high-definition portraits of Ithaca locals wearing a classic Groucho Marx disguise. I created the series to provide the Ithaca community an opportunity to participate in creating art. The portraits were installed on 22 of the outside windows of the Tompkins County Public Library located in Downtown Ithaca, NY. <a href='http://www.ilooksilly.com/'Learn more ">
  • The Banana-pillar stands over five feet tall and is a whopping seven feet long. This sculpture has a custom steel skeleton with eight supporting legs strategically welded to provide the maximum strength and stability. The outside of the banana peel consist of three layers of fiberglass, a thin coat of automotive body filler, and a bright yellow airbrushed paint job. <a href='mailto:ryan@mcguiremade.com'Request more info...">
  • I was privileged to be a part of one of Ithaca’s beautification projects called 21 Boxes. The project was airbrushed with automotive paint. <a href='mailto:ryan@mcguiremade.com'Request more info...">
  • I originally had my bunny model hang from monkey bars while I took her picture. I then extracted her from these pictures and overlayed the hanging rabbit over pictures of buildings and objects I photographed around Ithaca, NY. <a href='mailto:ryan@mcguiremade.com'Request more info...">
  • The spaceship car is constructed out of tin foil and a combination of charcoal shifters and HVAC components. Some of the exciting enhancements include an air horn, sound effects, and a fighter pilot stick shifter. <a href='mailto:ryan@mcguiremade.com'Request more info...">

The Artist

Hello, I'm Ryan McGuire and I'm not a ninja. I'm a multifaceted whimsically creative visual artist, based in Ithaca, NY. My art is one of the many mechanisms I use to connect with people. Art, like music, is a bonding and inspirational medium. I make art to share a part of my imagination with the world and to make you smile.

I've been making art for as long as I can remember. I enjoy creating things that don't regularly exist in the world. It's exciting to see how people respond to my creations and when the feedback is positive I get motivated to make more art. I'm bursting at the seams with ideas and creativity, but this works well for me because I'm an anti-procrastinator. This means when I have an art idea I make it. I experiment with many different mediums and the challenge of working with foreign materials is half the fun.
No, I'm a self-taught artist. Sometimes I think my art projects would be easier if I had some professional training, but it's possible that not already knowing the proven and tested approach of creating art allows me the creative freedom to break the rules and make monstrosities that make you go hmmm.
I would have to say Jell-O is my favorite food. Not exactly sure why, but Jell-O has always been a staple in my diet. I'm that guy that goes to a buffet and only eats the Jell-O. Me and Bill Cosby are almost the same person considering how much we both love Jell-O. My first-born child's name will likely be Jell-O McGuire. Does that answer your question?
Do bears crap in the woods? I'm available for private commission work and custom art opportunities (gallery or public; I'll possibly even fund the project if the opportunity is fun enough). I also have a lot of art available to display if this is what you're looking for. Send me an email or call me at (607) 222-5013 so we can discuss goals/needs.
I sell some of my artwork, but my primary income comes from my graphic and website design company called Bells Design. I work with amazing companies from around the world that appreciate my outside-the-box approach to business and design. I love being able to channel my creative energy to help other businesses and not-for-profits to be more successful.
For you? Definitely! All I need is for you to email me your mailing address and I'll drop one of my infamous bunny stickers in the mail for you. Stickers are awesome, but free stickers are awesomtastic!
