Object Oriented Programming in PHP - Dec 2009 MeetingPosted: 12/15/2009 by Chad Henderson | Vance Lucas will be giving his talk "Object Oriented Apologetics"
In defense of object-oriented programming - How and why you should use object oriented programming for your next project. This talk is for PHP programmers who are just learning about object oriented code, who cling to old excuses ("object oriented code is slower"), or who are otherwise unconvinced of its usefulness. Concrete real-world examples of common scenarios and challenges that programmers face will be presented, and how taking an object oriented approach is better than a procedural one in most cases. Copious code examples in both object oriented and procedural approaches will be provided throughout, and the differences and benefits of the object oriented approach will be explained.

June 2009 Meeting. June 9 Posted: 06/05/2009 by David Meinke | Building a Data Mapper with PHP5 and the Standard PHP Library
Presented by Vance Lucas
Learn the power of object-oriented programming in PHP5 and the many benefits it offers over the more traditional PHP procedural programming style. This session will include a light introduction to object-oriented concepts and will provide real-world concrete examples of the benefits it can offer you and the PHP projects you work on.
About Vance
Vance is a web developer specializing in the latest web technologies and trends, especially object-oriented PHP5, MySQL, Javascript, jQuery, HTML, and CSS. Vance is a motivated self-starter who created his first website at the age of 12. Driven to learn more about the web to make better websites, Vance taught himself programming with PHP and MySQL back when PHP3 was new at the age of 13. After discovering the power of server-side languages, he has never looked back and continues to work on projects and websites to make them better with the latest technologies. Since PHP5пїЅs release in late 2004, Vance has been focused on and obsessed with object-oriented programming and the advantages it has over the traditional PHP procedural coding style.
Vance currently works at Back40 Design, Inc. as the senior programmer, working on both client and internal projects, and most recently lead the programming team through a complete procedural to object-oriented programming conversion for Back40пїЅs new Content Management System called Javelin. |
