In Project Labs, selected participants have the chance to further work on and present their new fiction, documentary and short film projects. Doc Station, Script Station and Short Film Station offer development in regard to concept, story structure and creative issues to help improve a project.

The Stations also aim at creating a network of screenwriters who will be able to benefit from each otherЂЂЂs experiences and from the input of the mentors. At the Talent Project Market, selected producers and directors have the chance to present their fully developed film project to international co-producers and financiers.

Doc Station

Life on Screen

Doc Station is a project lab for documentary filmmakers participating in Berlinale Talents and is also open to alumni of Berlinale Talents who have not yet taken part in this project lab. The ten selected participants have the opportunity to further develop and improve their particular documentary project with the help of professional mentors.

They are offered project development in regards to concept, story structure and creative issues. Doc Station also aims at creating a network of filmmakers who will be able to benefit from each other‘s experiences and from the input of our mentors.

During the week, participants take part in an intensive Project Development Day and have the opportunity to one-on-one meetings with two different mentors. They get to work on their project description for the public presentation of Doc Station and continue development of their project treatment. After the public presentation the participants have the chance to meet with producers attending Berlinale Talents. Apart from their time spent at Doc Station the selected filmmakers will participate in the Summit programme of Berlinale Talents.

Doc Station is looking for directors who have either made a feature-length documentary film before, or directors who have made a short documentary and are now working on a feature-length documentary film for the first time. The previous film should have been screened at an international film festival or been broadcast on television. Applicants should show a good understanding of the film industry.

Please note that the main aim of Doc Station is not to help find a producer or funding for the project, to advise on the projects‘ budget, to arrange or facilitate co-production meetings.

Script Station is a project lab for screenwriters participating in Berlinale Talents and is also open to alumni of Berlinale Talents who have not yet taken part in this project lab.

Short Film Station

Lesson in Shorts

Short Film Station is a project lab for writer/directors participating in Berlinale Talents and is also open to alumni of Berlinale Talents who have not yet participated in this project lab.

Short Film Station is aimed at writer/directors with strong short film ideas that have already been developed, and might have been pitched recently at other programmes like Clermont-Ferrand (Euro Connection) or elsewhere.

Short Film Station offers participating filmmakers a meeting platform with emerging German and international producers. Each participant has the chance to work with a script editor during their one-on-one meetings. Participants get to enhance their projects before taking part in a day of in-depth meetings with producers. Additionally, experts give participants insights into the possibilities for financing short films in Germany and Europe, as well as into the latest developments in the short film industry. The selected filmmakers will be presented at the reception for the short film industry during the Berlin International Film Festival.

Talent Project Market

Meet Your Perfect Match

The Talent Project Market, a collaboration between the Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents, offers Talents inside knowledge and contacts that are necessary to bring them closer to making their films.

Ten emerging producers and directors are selected to present their film proposals to experienced co-producers and financiers who are attending the Berlinale Co-Production Market. In addition, the Talent Project Market offers two monetary awards. The Talent Project Market is open to producers and directors participating in Berlinale Talents as well as to previous participants (producer and director alumni).

Talent Project Market is one of the Berlinale Talents project labs. At the same time, it is a special section within the Berlinale Co-Production Market, reserved for 10 emerging producers and directors from Berlinale Talents. The Berlinale Co-Production Market is a 2,5-day event during the Berlin International Film Festival which brings together around 500 producers and financiers from all over the world for exclusive and concentrated networking.

You can apply for the Talent Project Market with a feature film project for theatrical release and suitable for an international co-production. The script of your film project must be finished and preferably (although not necessarily) already have a producer and/or initial financing attached. If your project is invited, you will participate in the 3-day programme and have the chance to meet various potential partners for your project.

The first day of Talent Project Market focuses on the preparation of your meetings and learning more about the international film business and its markets. A pitching trainer, various mentors and other industry experts join to help you by giving insider tips on how to present and to market your project, and by sharing their views on the ins and outs of international co-production, financing and co-production markets. The second and third day at Talent Project Market are dedicated to one-on-one meetings with potential partners for your project, who can read about your project in the Berlinale Co-Production Market project catalogue and request 30-minute meetings with you. These requested meetings will be pre-scheduled by us. In addition, Talent Project Market offers a variety of informal networking opportunities and gives you the chance to exchange ideas and share your experiences with the other selected Talents.

As a Talent Project Market participant you are automatically considered for the VFF Talent Highlight Pitch Award, endowed with 10.000 Euro (sponsored by the VFF - Verwertungsgesellschaft der Film- und Fernsehproduzenten). Three of the 10 Talent Projects will be pre-selected by the VFF and an international jury for this public pitching event at the Berlinale Co-Production Market and one of them receives the 10.000 Euro award for further project development. The other two competitors receive 1.000 Euro each.

In addition, another prize is awarded - this one among all projects at the Berlinale Co-Production Market (Talent Projects included), the ARTE International Award endowed with 6.000 Euro. Here, representatives of the broadcaster ARTE chose the winning project during the market.

Berlinale Talents provides a range of Studio programmes for specific groups of film professionals. Actors, cinematographers, distributors, editors, production designers, sales agents, score composers and sound designers are automatically considered for one of the corresponding Studios.

Here they can share their ideas with fellow talents, take part in various hands-on programmes and excursions, and discuss and improve the aesthetics and mechanics of their own work under the tutelage of renowned mentors and experts.

At the Production Design Studio experts share how the advancement of technological possibilities has allowed them to redefine what is possible when it comes to their work. The Production Design Studio is done in collaboration with the University of Southern California (USC) and the 5D Institute, Los Angeles. ЂЂЂWorldbuildingЂЂЂ is a metaphor for a design and iteration process that creates and actualizes the story space in digital narrative media. It addresses the experience of creating new worlds for storytelling through an immersive creative practice.

Production Design Studio offers the chance for production designers to take part in a collaborative exploration to develop the practice of visual storytelling, using new inception and development processes to prototype, capture and manufacture the imagination within a single virtual production space. At the core of the studio sessions, production designers have the opportunity to re-examine the creative process itself, to discover and develop new ways of seeing, thinking, iterating and collaborating.

Sound Studio stresses the importance of the interdisciplinary collaboration between sound designers and composers with screenwriters, directors, and producers in order to encourage exchange between different areas of filmmaking. It enables sound designers and composers to improve their work by connecting them at an early stage to professionals from other film disciplines. The programme not only features case study sessions and master classes with sound designers and film composers, but also focuses on the production side of sound design (clearing music rights, post-production), includes excursions and offers the opportunity to discuss projects-in-progress with experts. If you wish to participate in the Sound Studio, you must apply to Berlinale Talents as a sound designer/composer. Sound designers and composers applying to Berlinale Talents will automatically be considered for the Sound Studio programme and do not have to fill out an additional application.
